Inspired by the Old West architecture of nearby Pioneertown and the desert landscape. The result is Cowboy Modern - a combination of a modern steel house whose large, sloped, shed roof echos the mountains and the reclaimed lumber typical of the old barns and cabins of the desert. The steel structure of the house is a bolt together series of moment frames that assembles like an erector set. Using this steel system dramatically reduced the construction time, minimizing the disturbance of the desert's delicate ecosystem. Because the steel is precut and pre-drilled for bolting, there is no construction waste.
